The successful candidate will commence their university studies and work placement in March 2026.

What you’ll do
Translate theoretical knowledge from your studies into hands-on experience by:
- Assisting in the identification and remediation of short and long-term maintenance issues.
- Assisting in areas of engineering including installation, maintenance and repair of power generation equipment, statutory compliance, and efficiency and performance of the coal fired generating facility.
- Being involved in projects for construction of new plant, improving and modifying existing plant, and improving plant condition.
- Learning and applying engineering standards, procedures, and safety regulations relevant to power generation.
What you’ll need
To be successful you must demonstrate:
- An eagerness to learn, analytical mindset, and capacity to adjust quickly to new challenges.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and proven ability to collaborate with others.
A requirement of this cadetship is to obtain successful entry into the Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical)(Honours) at Federation University. Entry requirements for the degree include:
For Year 12 students (or Year 12 gradates within the past two years):
- Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 20 in any English.
- Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 20 in one of Mathematics: Mathematical Methods or Maths: Specialist Mathematics.
For non-Year 12 students / mature-age applicants:
- Previous higher education studies with results at a pass level, including any 'single subjects of study', or successful completion of a tertiary preparatory course such as the Federation Access Studies Program (FAST).
For applicants with previous Vocational Education and Training study:
- Successful completion of a relevant VET qualification at Certificate III level or higher.
For applicants with work and life experience:
Applicants who have not completed secondary education or undertaken any TAFE or university studies will not be eligible for direct entry. Applicants in this category should consider a pathway course such as Federation Access Studies (FAST) Program.
